Bassist Kristof Roseeuw and accordionist Philippe Thuriot have been working together for years. They were part of New Yorker Ellery Eskelin’s band during one of his tours and have also toured with René Lussier, the famous guitarist of Fred Frith’s quartet. Together they walked the streets of Senegal and performed at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004. They also played in the radioKUKAorkest, a quartet that was formed at the request of KLARA to play live music on the Belgian radio. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and gradually both men developed the desire for their own ensemble. Roseeuw involved drummer Lionel Beuvens. At Gent Jazz, 3Men in a BoaT will realize a long-cherished dream. They are inviting the French Louis Sclavis, a leading figure in European impro music and one of the first to combine jazz with French folk music.
