Naima Joris started out as a background singer with, among others, Raymond van het Groenewoud and Isbells, the band from Leuven that picked her up after she started singing at 27. She also sang with her father, well-known Belgian jazz musician Chris Joris. During the lockdown, however, she brought her voice to the fore. First with covers, then with her untitled debut EP: a disarmingly warm result of a grieving process. The blues EP consists of only five songs and few words, but with piercing horns and Naima’s voice guiding you through her pain and sorrow, it is a grand and intimate work. Together with Niels Van Heertum, Lara Rosseel, Vitja Pauwels and Tijl Piryns, she brings music that reflects the musings of her soul.
