Besides the rock of dEUS and the electro of Magnus, Tom Barman ventures into jazz with TaxiWars. Not a surprising move: Barman has always been a fan of the genre and he was also involved in compilations of the free jazz label Impulse! Records. Barman leads the quartet, which also consists of saxophonist Robin Verheyen, bassist Nicolas Thys and drummer Antoine Pierre. Together, they bring lyrical jazz with a raw edge. Their third album Artificial Horizon was released in 2019 and was internationally applauded. British newspaper The Observer, among others, praised the album for its intelligence and unpretentiousness. Live reviews are also raving about the band’s performances “that rock the room”. There’s no doubt about it: it’s jazz, Jim, but not as we know it.
