Wim Mertens began his career as a musicologist and radio producer. After that, he went on to work as a composer, singer, pianist and guitarist. After his first release For Amusement Only in 1980, a recording consisting solely of the sound of pinball machines, Mertens developed his musical language by writing vocal compositions and pieces for various ensembles as well as symphony orchestras. Now, he has more than seventy records to his name, which he still regularly performs live worldwide. His ambition is to create events that lie “between words and action”, with the audience helping to determine the scale.
